Young Adult Portal specializes in helping young adult learners thrive. We believe life is about more than just working and earning money. We match our students to careers that empower them to make a difference in the world while improving their own lives.

MISSION

The Young Adult Portal’s Career Center was created to meet the career development needs of all Young Adults.

SERVICES

Young Adult Portal’s participants have access to individual appointments to discuss a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to:

Getting to the next stage in your career:

Assistance in investigating career options
Resources for identifying possible employers.
Assistance with the process of applying to graduate or professional (medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, nursing, etc.) school.
CV and resume review
Personal statement and cover letter review
Mock interviews, including group mock interviews.

Skill development:

Preparation for informational interviewing
Networking skill refinement
Interpersonal skills development, e.g., assertiveness
Having difficult discussions

Knowing yourself:

Wellness issues such as resilience and self-confidence
Administration and interpretation of formal assessments

o The Strong Interest Inventory, which identifies career interests.

o The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a tool for analyzing personality type.

OFFICE HOURS AND LOCATIONS

Most career counselors and advisors are available between the core hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. However, some may begin work earlier or remain at work later, so appointments may be available outside these times. To make a virtual appointment (via Zoom), please contact us to make an appointment time and then indicate, the “purpose of meeting” and that you would like a phone or Zoom appointment. Include the telephone number at which you can be reached. Career Center Services staff members visit New York City and Westchester County on a regular basis. Counselors and advisors provide career assistance to young adults at schools and libraries. Career Exploration Services:

Career Exploration Services are virtual and in-person opportunities for young adults to explore and engage with organizations in brand name companies across various industries. The program will include virtual visits to meet with employers where you will have the opportunity to explore careers while gaining valuable networking skills. Employer partners and special guests hosts from organizations will discuss the most pressing trends across a range of industries. Join us for one or more events throughout the year. If you’re part of a group or organization, we invite you to partner with us.
Career Exploration Services includes a series of events that will help you learn strategic frameworks and practical steps for effective engagement with employers, internship and job search prep and skills, and well-being throughout your journey.
We are offering several in-person workshops, virtual workshops, and Instagram (IG) Live events. Check back often for more events.
